Ricardo Brings in PV-WAVE® to Silence Engines

Solutions
Benefits
  • Noise, vibration, harshness research
  • Analysis and visualization of large data sets
Internationally renowned automotive consultancy, Ricardo Consulting Engineers, has installed PV-WAVE to help in its quest to silence the car engine. Ricardo, which is at the forefront of N.V.H. research (noise, vibration, harshness), will use the software to help analyze the massive data sets generated by its Finite Element models. The company is working on N.V.H. projects for many of the world's leading automotive manufacturers.

According to Ricardo, PV-WAVE is the ideal tool to analyze the billions of data points generated by Finite Element Analysis of an engine design. 3D plotting techniques help to highlight potential problems, allowing refinement of the design to be carried out even before the first prototype is made.

"A powerful visualization tool such as PV-WAVE helps to give us a deeper understanding of the wealth of data that our simulations provide," said Dr. Richard Hall, a project engineer at Ricardo.

According to Ricardo, noise emission is one of the key issues facing engine manufacturers and is now at least as important as performance and reliability.

PV-WAVE is a high-level tool for the input, analysis and visualization of large data sets. Its visual manipulation features allow users to explore their data, looking for patterns, trends or anomalies.
