Visual Numerics®and Hearne Scientific Software Team Up To Deliver the IMSL® Numerical Libraries and PV-WAVE® in Australia and New Zealand

San Ramon, CA- October 21, 2003 - Visual Numerics Inc., a leading provider of numerical analysis and visualization software, and Hearne Scientific Software, a leading distributor of scientific software, announced a partnership to provide scientific, engineering and business users with numerical analysis tools and capabilities. Under this agreement, Hearne will be the exclusive distributor of Visual Numerics' IMSL Libraries and PV-WAVE products in Australia and New Zealand across all industries, with a particularly strong presence in the education and government sectors.

"This partnership is truly exciting for Hearne. The uses for the IMSL Libraries and the PV-WAVE products span our entire customer spectrum of researchers, engineers, software developers and business people," said Dr. James Hearne, General Manager. "We can now provide them with the most advanced numerical analysis tools available on the market."

About the IMSL Numerical Libraries and PV-WAVE The IMSL™ Numerical Libraries are a comprehensive set of mathematical and statistical algorithms that programmers can embed into their C, Java and Fortran software applications. IMSL provides the expertise needed to develop and execute robust numerical analysis applications; and PV-WAVE® delivers an array-based fourth-generation (4GL) programming language used by scientists, researchers, engineers, and business analysts to build and deploy Visual Data Analysis applications. These applications allow engineers, scientists and researchers to manipulate and visualize simple to extremely complex datasets to detect and display patterns, trends, anomalies and other vital information that would otherwise be overlooked in their data.

"We partnered with Hearne because they are one of the most established and well respected scientific software distributors in Australia and New Zealand, and their product portfolio and customer base closely matches our own," said Phil Fraher, COO of Visual Numerics. "Hearne also provides us with broader access to the Asia-Pacific market, where we're seeing tremendous demand for numerical analysis software from a variety of data-intensive markets such as educational research, government, life sciences, and financial services."
