Visual Numerics' IMSL® Fortran 5.0 Library Targeted for
Next Release of
Intel Fortran for Windows
Visual Numerics to Optimize its High-Performance
Numerical Analysis Tools for Intel Compiler Technology
San Ramon, CA - July 29, 2003 - Visual Numerics Inc., a leading provider of numerical analysis and visualization
software today announced that it is optimizing the Visual Numerics IMSL® Fortran Library 5.0, which is targeted for
use with the next release of the Intel® Fortran Compiler for Windows. The combination of the IMSL Fortran Library
with the Intel Fortran Compiler allows Fortran application developers to take advantage of robust mathematical and
statistical algorithms optimized for Intel's compiler technology and build high-performance applications on Microsoft
Windows-based systems using Intel Pentium®, Intel Xeon and Intel Itanium® processor families.
For decades, Visual Numerics' IMSL Fortran Libraries have provided industry-leading analysis routines to Fortran
developers in high-performance computing through partnerships with top compiler vendors such as Microsoft, Digital
Equipment Corporation, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Absoft and Lahey. With the growing importance of business analytics
and the need to develop more robust numerical analysis applications, availability of Visual Numerics' IMSL Fortran
Libraries for Intel Fortran compilers is significant news for Fortran developers. This shows Intel's and Visual
Numerics' commitment to offer a comprehensive development environment available for high-performance analytics on
Intel Architecture-based systems. Developers will be able to take advantage of this solution to deliver powerful
computing applications for a range of numerical analysis-intense industries including finance, life sciences, research,
aerospace, and manufacturing.
"Intel software development products, including Intel Fortran compilers, offer developers outstanding application
performance and fit easily into the way developers currently work," said Jon Khazam, general manager of Software
Products Division of Intel Corporation. He continued by saying "We look forward to helping ease and extend the
development resources of our Fortran customers with the capabilities of version 5.0 of Visual Numerics' IMSL Fortran
Libraries."
"Visual Numerics' IMSL Fortran Library continues to be the library of choice for the Fortran development community.
By working with Intel, Visual Numerics can continue to make sophisticated Fortran-based mathematical and statistical
libraries available to developers on computers based on the Intel Architecture," said Phil Fraher, COO of Visual
Numerics.
IMSL Fortran Library 5.0
Unlike other libraries, the IMSL Fortran Library 5.0 is the only comprehensive library of mathematical and statistical
algorithms for Fortran developers available in one cohesive package with complete backward compatibility. It combines
the powerful and flexible interface features of the Fortran language with the performance benefits of both distributed
memory and shared memory multiprocessing architectures.
In addition to IMSL's popular and easy-to-use naming conventions, the IMSL Fortran Library version 5.0 uses the
latest Fortran protocol throughout to include applicable optional arguments, which saves time and reduces complexity
in programming. Visual Numerics has also added new optimization functionality and statistical time-series algorithm
codes, making it the most comprehensive set of Fortran libraries available and supported in a single package.
Availability
Visual Numerics' IMSL Fortran Library 5.0 for the Intel Fortran Compiler for Windows is targeted for release in Q4 2003.
