Cooperative Effort Among Industry, Higher Education and Research
Centers to Focus on Creating Innovative Tools for Mathematics,
Statistics and Visualization
Seattle, WA – SC|05, BOOTH #2006 – November 15, 2005
– Visual Numerics, Inc., celebrating 35 years of producing leading
numerical analysis and visualization software, today announced the formation
of a Technology Exchange Council. Chaired by Visual Numerics CEO Phil
Fraher, the Technology Exchange Council brings together experts in
mathematics, statistics, and visualization in a cooperative effort
among industry, higher education, and research centers to foster innovation.
The Council will provide insight into the evolution of Visual Numerics'
product roadmap, ensuring that the company's efforts are aligned with
industry trends, and that products will meet the real-world needs of students,
researchers, and developers.
Among the inaugural members of the Technology Exchange Council are Dr.
Thomas B. Kepler, professor of computational biology, Duke University; Dr.
Gary R. Bertoline, professor of computer graphics technology, Purdue
University; Dr. Eliezer Prisman, professor of finance, York University;
Dr. Gerald Hanweck, professor of finance, George Mason University; and
Dr. Gary McClelland, professor of psychology, University of Colorado, Boulder.
"The Technology Exchange Council represents a deep level of cooperation
between industry and researchers and academics in some of today's most
complex and far-reaching technical fields such as financial engineering,
computational biology, and computer graphics," said Phil Fraher, president
and CEO of Visual Numerics. "The ideas and insights that come from the
Council will help us develop innovative products that will help the
researchers and developers of tomorrow reshape the world we live in."
"The Visual Numerics Technology Exchange Council is an important vehicle
for the exchange of information between industry and academia, and will
further the goals of both," said Dr. Gary Bertoline, director of the
Envision Center for Data Perceptualization at Purdue University. "The
effort will reward university researchers and students by arming them
with tools that will better prepare them for their careers and support
the pioneering work of the future."
