Visual Numerics® Wins a Scientific Computing & Instrumentation
2005 Product of the Year Award

JMSL Numerical Library Wins Mathematics Category

SAN RAMON, Calif. – January 10, 2006 – Visual Numerics, Inc., celebrating 35 years of producing leading numerical analysis and visualization software, today announced that its JMSL Numerical Library version 3.0 for Java has been honored as the 2005 Product of the Year award winner in the Mathematics category by the readers and editorial board of Scientific Computing & Instrumentation magazine. The 2005 award winners, announced in the December 2005 issue, were chosen based on an assessment and tracking of popular products among readers throughout a 12-month period. Feedback solicited from the editorial board helped solidify the readers' selections.

"When we are honored with a reader's choice award, we know we're moving in the right direction and giving our business, technical, and scientific audiences the right data analysis tools to solve complex industry problems," said Phil Fraher, president and CEO of Visual Numerics. "We are thrilled about being named one of Scientific Computing & Instrumentation's 2005 product winners and hold this accolade in high esteem."

As the only comprehensive, 100% Java numerical analysis package available, the JMSL Numerical Library Version 3.0 offers the broadest collection of mathematical, statistical, financial, and charting classes and is designed to provide a fast, scalable framework for tailored analytical applications, enabling users in the fields of finance, business intelligence, bioinformatics and life sciences to easily create customized applications for data mining and predictive analysis of complex data.

In addition, the JMSL Numerical Library 3.0 includes neural network technology that adds to the already broad selection of data mining, modeling and prediction technologies available across the IMSL family of products. The neural network technology was developed to mimic human problem-solving processes by applying knowledge gained from historical data to new situations, enabling businesses to build predictive models that increase in accuracy as more information is obtained. For example, companies can extract information such as historical cost data and apply this data to the neural network to forecast future costs with greater precision.
