Visual Numerics® Enables Schools to Teach More Sophisticated
Math and Analytical Skills
Introductory academic
licensing program includes IMSL® Numerical Libraries and PV-WAVE®
HOUSTON, TX – April 25, 2007
– Visual Numerics, Inc., a leading
producer of advanced numerical analysis and visualization software,
today honored "Math Awareness Month" by offering a low-cost Introductory
Department License Special to faculty and academic researchers for
its IMSL® Numerical Libraries and PV-WAVE® visualization software.
The program, which guarantees pricing for three years, encourages
schools to use more sophisticated mathematical software to develop
applications for curriculum or critical research that increase students'
analytical comprehension.
Most mathematical tools used today in graduate schools
and academic laboratories are limited in performance, robustness
and scalability, and are not equipped to teach students how to solve
complex problems. As a result, students are not developing the sophisticated
analytical and programming skills necessary to compete effectively
as mathematicians, engineers and researchers in the global marketplace.
Visual Numerics' licensing program offers faculty and researchers
a cost-effective way to purchase its award-winning IMSL Numerical
Libraries in Fortran, C/C++, Java and/or .NET as well as PV-WAVE,
and use those tools to build applications for a range of academic
tutorials including numerical analysis, computational biology, financial
analysis, forecasting, and high performance computing. Under the
department licensing agreement, students can use the software for
free.
The University of Houston's Department of Computer
Science was a pilot for this new licensing program. "The goal of
our department is to be a champion in interdisciplinary and innovative
research. To achieve this goal collaboration with industry leaders
such as Visual Numerics is extremely important," explains Dr. Marc
Garbey, Chair for the Department of Computer Science, University
of Houston. "The reliability and flexibility of the IMSL Libraries
and PV-WAVE allow us to extend the computational requirements of
our research projects."
"Visual Numerics is committed to ensuring that schools
have the best mathematics tools to teach the rigors of scientific
computing and analysis," said Phil Fraher, president and CEO of
Visual Numerics. "By providing a cost-effective way for faculty
to use the same numerical libraries and visualization software as
government agencies and global financial institutions, we're hoping
they can better prepare students for real world analytical challenges."
