Visual Numerics Selected for SD Times 100

Industry Leading IMSL® Numerical Libraries Chosen for SD Times'
Components & Libraries Category

San Ramon, CA - May 17, 2004 - Visual Numerics, Inc., a leading provider of numerical analysis and visualization software, today announced that it was chosen for the second consecutive year as one of the SD Times 100. The second annual SD Times 100, which was published May 15, 2004, recognizes the leaders and innovators of the software development industry. Visual Numerics was named in the Components & Libraries category for the outstanding achievement of its IMSL Numerical Libraries.

According to publication editors, IMSL was chosen because of its mathematical and statistical functions as well as its ability to deploy to new chips and platforms. Throughout the past year, Visual Numerics has enhanced functionality of its IMSL Libraries, including the IMSL Fortran Numerical Library, JMSL Numerical Library for Java applications, and the IMSL C Numerical Library. Enhancements to the IMSL product family have provided programmers across multiple industries and in research and scientific communities with the power to perform even deeper data analysis on a broader array of computing environments. New features introduced include new and expanded routines in areas such as optimization, data mining, time series, and design of experiments analysis and easier-to-use interface modules, while retaining full backward compatibility.

"Each year, the editors of BZ Media's SD Times 100 look for companies and influencers which set the technical and market leadership for the software development industry," said Alan Zeichick, editor-in-chief of SD Times. "When choosing the 2004 SD Times 100, we carefully considered each organization's offerings and reputation with developers, as well as the attention and conversation we've heard around the company and its products and technologies, as a sign of leadership within the industry."

"We are honored to be recognized as part of the SD Times 100 for the second consecutive year, " said Phil Fraher, COO of Visual Numerics. "As a trusted provider of IMSL Numerical algorithms for more than three decades, we are committed to advancing the field of numerical analysis for both business and high performance computing. With our newest IMSL Library offerings we have added unprecedented functionality and taken steps to further improve ease of use so that our customers can perform the complex data analysis required by today's competitive business, technical and scientific environments."

Launched in February 2000, BZ Media's SD Times is the newspaper of record for the software-development industry. SD Times is published twice monthly in identical print and digital editions, and can also be read online at www.sdtimes.com.
