Visual Numerics, Teksouth, Team Together to Develop Innovative Neural
Network Forecasting Application

Business Intelligence Consulting Firm Uses Leading Analytics Solution to Create Predictive Analytics Application for Accurate Budget Forecasting

San Ramon, CA - August 17, 2004 -- Visual Numerics Inc., a leading provider of numerical analysis and visualization software, today announced that Teksouth Corporation, a leader in data discovery and business intelligence, is using Visual Numerics' solutions to develop an innovative neural network forecasting application for its customers. Based on Visual Numerics' IMSL® C Numerical Library, the forecasting application will enable private sector and government organizations to more accurately project and budget spending changes, and will help companies address accountability and regulatory compliance issues.

Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, Teksouth Corporation is developing the forecasting application using Microsoft's .NET development platform and by partnering with Visual Numerics Professional Services. The neural network forecasting application is designed to extract information from historical cost data, applying the information to forecast future costs. The analytic engine will have the flexibility to prioritize historical data and exclude anomalous data to improve its predictive capabilities. One of the most powerful features of this solution is its ability to mimic the brain's own problem-solving process by applying knowledge gained from historical data to new problems, fine-tuning its forecasting accuracy even more over time. This innovative application has tremendous potential for businesses and government agencies around the globe.

"The flexibility and learning potential of our neural net forecasting application has significant potential to help government agencies and commercial businesses improve their predictive analysis capabilities, moving well beyond traditional tools into high end business intelligence," said Larry Northington, vice president of strategic planning and corporate development for Teksouth, and a retired U.S. Air Force Major General. "This application would not exist without Visual Numerics' mathematical and statistical libraries and the top-notch work of their professional services experts."

"The neural network forecasting application that Visual Numerics developed with Teksouth is a truly innovative use of our analytics technology and expertise," said Phil Fraher, COO of Visual Numerics. "It will significantly enhance the ability of computer modeling and predictive analysis solutions to deliver relevant, useful information to improve the management of data-intensive organizations. We are proud to be part of a project that will help maximize organizations' efficiency by enabling them to better forecast and manage budgetary expenses."

About the IMSL Numerical Libraries
The IMSL Numerical Libraries have been the cornerstone of highly predictive and deep computing applications in science, technical and business environments for nearly three decades. These embeddable mathematical and statistical algorithms, written in C, Java™ and Fortran, are used in a broad range of applications -- from programs that make airplanes fly and allow people to predict the weather, to those that enable innovative ways to study the human genome and predict stock market behavior. The IMSL Libraries are regarded as the most sophisticated, flexible, scalable and highly accessible technology available for numerical analysis in the most important mainstream programming environments in use today. With the strength of its IMSL Numerical Libraries and consulting expertise, more and more organizations are turning to Visual Numerics for leading-edge business analytics solutions.
