JWAVE Earth Sciences Demo
This application displays
wind velocity magnitudes at various pressure layers around the Earth
in the form of 2-D colored vector and contour plots. Pressure layers
are used to measure the Earth's atmosphere [in millibars (mb)].
The higher the value, the higher the pressure layer (e.g., 1000
mb corresponds to the pressure at ground level).
This application shows
the ability of JWAVE to maximize performance by minimizing the amount
of data transferred to the client. The data set of weather information
is more than 1MB, however, the JWAVE Server sends the client only
the data needed to generate the plot determined by the user's settings.
Furthermore, this application demonstrates how easy it is for users
to interact with information in JWAVE.
Directions
- Select either the Wind Velocity Vector or Contour plot type.
- Select the pressure level you would like to plot from the drop-down list box.
- Optionally, select the Grid Lines and Contour check boxes if you wish to add them.
- Click the Display button to view the plot.
- To get the exact wind speed at a specific location, click on the map. The longitude,
latitude and wind vector magnitude will appear in the text fields
on the left.
