PV-WAVE® VDA Tools

High-level tools for Visual Data Analysis

  • VDA Tools are reusable objects that provide the developer with a powerful modular framework for easy application customization.
  • Variables can be easily imported and exported among tools. You can also copy and paste graphic elements freely among graphic tools.
  • The state of a VDA Tool can be saved and restored in its entirety or as a template for later use.
  • Context-sensitive online help is provided for each tool and can be modified for local application use.
  • Multiple instances of any VDA Tool can be run simultaneously without interfering with one another other or the command line. Each instance shares the same source code, yet it is independent of other instances. Each instance can display a different variable and can be customized for specific display attributes.
  • Each VDA Tool is callable from the command line, from the Navigator or from a customized interface.
  • A display list is associated with each instance of a tool. The display list allows the user to generate the PV-WAVE code associated with the operation being performed as well as print the area being displayed.
  • VDA Tools developed for X Windows or Microsoft Windows® are portable across platforms and adapt to the native look and feel at run time.

A list of the VDA Tools supplied with PV-WAVE Foundation includes:

Animation Tool (WzAnimation)
Step through a sequence of stored images to animate your data. Capture the contents of a displayed VDA Tool window into an animation variable.
Color Table Editor Tool (WsColorEdit)
Manipulate the global color table used in all VDA tools.
Contour Tool (WzContour)
Contour 2D data with straight or splined lines. Modify colors, line styles, annotation and other graphical attributes via a set of dialog boxes.
Export Tool (WzExport)
Export data to a file in any of these formats: ASCII CSV, Binary (Native, FORTRAN, and XDR), 8-bit image, 24-bit image and TIFF.
Histogram Tool (WzHistogram)
Visualize quantitative trends in large data sets where each region in the graph represents the results of a statistical sampling of data.
Import Tool (WzImport)
Import data from a file in any of these formats: ASCII CSV, Binary (Native, FORTRAN, and XDR), 8-bit image, 24-bit image, TIFF and HP-VEE Container.
Image Tool (WzImage)
Display your data as 8-bit or 24-bit images. Any image size can be displayed, and scrollbars are automatically available when the image is larger than the maximum display area size.
Previewer Tool (WzPreview)
Read ASCII data files and interactively define headers, records and fields for the data. A "best guess" determination of file format is automatically made at startup.
Plot Tool (WzPlot)
Plot data arrays as lines, markers or a combination of the two. Line attributes such as style, color and thickness can be customized. Multiple axes are supported.
Table Tool (WzTable)
Display, subset and modify your data in tabular format. The data can be a scalar or an array variable.
3D Surface Tool (WzSurface)
Visualize your data as a 3D surface, as well as rotating and applying shading to the surface.
Variable Tool (WzVariable)
List, organize, copy, delete and get information on some or all of the global PV-WAVE variables.
