Tech Notes File Types

FrameViewer/FrameMaker files
...can be viewed or printed using FrameViewer, provided with most Unix versions of PV-WAVE, or FrameMaker. Simply startup FrameViewer or FrameMaker and open the file using the menus. To print the document you will need a PostScript printer.

Because FrameViewer files are distributed in a compressed UNIX tar archive, you will have to uncompress (uncompress filename.tar.Z) and un-tar (tar -xf filename.tar) the archive in order to use the files.

For example, to view a FrameView/FrameMaker file within a PV-WAVE session, you would type help at the PV-WAVE prompt, then open the ".book" file, from which you can go to the table of contents or the body of the Tech Note. Or, you can type wavedoc at the UNIX prompt to start FrameViewer and then proceed as described above.

PostScript files
...can be printed to any PostScript printer, or viewed using tools such as GhostScript, GhostView, etc. These viewing programs are free and available in the public domain, but are not distributed by Visual Numerics.
